Hello, my name is Safri. Ahmad Safri Yusop. I am currently a freelance photographer based in Kuching.
I am 100% Sarawakian, born on 28th September '84 in Saratok. I don't remember much of my birthplace as I grew up mostly in Kuching. The best city in the world!
It is funny how I hated art classes during my school years as I couldn't draw. Straight lines and even coloring was annoyingly hard for me. Shaky hands, maybe?
But that did not keep me from expressing my imagination and creativity. Space ships, fighter jets, robots, cranes, I had it all (the lego version that is). Plus hundreds and hundreds of "blue prints" and sketches of my "inventions".
I spent most of my academic years learning sciences. From biology to geology, I thought I've set up my future path.
Then, came along cameras. At first cameras were only gadgets to me, until a few of my friends insisted me to take their pictures. I fall in love with photography. Studying in a beautiful city in UK, I took all chances that I have to take photographs. Scenery? Check. Street? Check. Portraits? Check!
My pursuit of a degree in Geology didn't end well. Blame field trip that is! (I had MAJOR phobia with heights, and my project situation didn't help me at all). Went back to Malaysia, and waited for my certificate to come out (yes, fortunately I still have a diploma, maybe because our course is quite hard? and I finished all subjects exc the final field trip). With a simple camera kit, I tried freelancing.
And after nearly 4 years, I'm still doing it.
I know, I know... lame story. But I promise I'll update when I have the idea to write *wink*!
